Clara DiBella says she lives in her garage. At least it feels that way she says since her kayak, paddle board and fishing rods all claim prime real estate in her condo’s living room. Living only steps from the intracoastal in Lake Worth Beach, Clara savors sunrise sojourns on the water between the Lake Worth and Lantana bridges. “It’s quiet, beautiful, and low boat traffic at that time,” she says.
To describe Clara as an “outdoors type” is an understatement. In addition to water activities, the Lynbrook, Long Island native also bikes, plays golf, walks, weight trains, and paddle boards. She also recently took Latin and Ballroom dance lessons. “I like to wiggle,” she says.
Clara says that Deacon Patricia Masterson inspired her to join St. Andrew’s, where she’s been a member for over 15 years. You could regularly find her at either the Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning 7:30 services and Integrity events.
A self-proclaimed survivor and optimist, Clara looked at pandemic-induced isolation as an opportunity to expand her palate of interests. She even ventured out of her comfort zone, exploring her artistic side learning to paint in watercolor. “I don’t consider myself creative, but it’s been fun, I love it!”
Clara utilizes a couple of step-by-step, instructional books on the subject and will take about two lessons a day. The books include pre-drawn images she filled in with the colors of her choice. Lately, she began drawing and painting her own images and learning to mix colors. “It’s very contemplative for me,” she says. “And the thing I love the most is that I catch myself smiling when I do it—it truly brings me joy.”

Sing in the shower or your car? “My car. I live in a condo, so I have to consider my neighbors!”
What is something people would be surprised to learn about you? “Although I’m very active and outgoing, I treasure my contemplative time alone at home.”
Describe St. Andrew’s in one word or phrase: “Warm and welcoming. Feels like home.”
